Living the Detox Lifestyle
Exercise has many health benefits including aiding digestion and elimination. During the detox program, aim to do 30 to 40 minutes of moderate intensity exercise (brisk walking or swimming) and one to two sessions per week of strengthening exercises such as weights, calisthenics, yoga or pilates.
One of the easiest things to do to get your system detoxifying more is to drink lots of water. Ideally the water should be as pure as possible, from a filter is ideal. Drink at least two litres of water per day, more if it hot or you are exercising. A good rule of thumb is that if your urine is not clear, drink more. Add lemon, ginger or mint to your water to get more in!
Detoxify your environment
Your home and work can be major sources of toxins. Try to eliminate or minimise your use of cleaning products (vinegar, bicarb soda, and other natural products are suitable alternatives), antiperspirants with aluminum, pesticides, herbicides, petrochemicals, paints, solvents and hair spray.
Avoid toxic emotions and stress
How you feel and how you think influences your health profoundly. Try to avoid being around negative, people. Choose to be positive, optimistic and focused on improving your health. If you have major stress in your life, enlisting the support of others can be useful. If you have a lot of small stresses, try meditation or yoga.
Dry skin brushing
Your skin is a major organ of elimination and dead cells accumulate preventing the skin from removing toxins effectively. Before your shower, spend 5 to 10 minutes with a firm-bristled brush or loofah and scrub the skin of the arms, legs and back briskly. Your skin may feel slightly red and tingly when you are finished.
Research into sauna, massage and exercise has shown that these activities have a positive effect on reducing toxicity. Saunas promote sweating which will assist detoxification. If you have access to a sauna use it as part of your detoxification program.
They lymphatic system collects excess fluid and waste from the cells and tissues. If your lymph system is sluggish, fluid and waste build up, preventing the delivery of nutrients to cells. Detoxification stimulates the release of toxins which may overload the lymph system. Lymphatic drainage massage is a great way to stimulate the lymph and remove fluid and waste.
Proper rest and a good night’s sleep are essential when you are detoxing. Try for between seven to nine hours of sleep per night. Please speak with me if you are having trouble with sleep.
